HOW EFAC WORKS

The word is now getting out that healthy oils such as omega 3 oils, flax oil and fish oils have anti-inflammatory properties. EFAC works in much the same way as these oils; however the EFAC simply provides a much greater ability to limit inflammation.

Omega 3 oils and EFAC are believed to support the health of cell membranes, thereby enabling them to improve overall functioning. One result of an unhealthy cell membrane is increased inflammation.

Besides a far greater anti-inflammatory impact than current healthy oils, EFAC also has a very unique quality that enables it to work topically. Our skin provides a barrier that is very selective. However, EFAC can pass through the skin and is absorbed into the muscles and joints because the compound has both neutral (similar to oils) and electrically charged (similar to water) components. Unlike other topicals that may be combined with a penetrating agent to improve absorbtion, with EFAC the active is the penetrating agent. Combining the anti-inflammatory properties of EFAC and the unique ability to penetrate down deep is the "secret" of this amazing topical analgesic cream.

Using both the softgel capsules and the topical pain cream together is a true winning combination. With the softgels you get the long-term systemic effect of a natural anti-inflammatory. And with the topical cream you get short-term concentrated pain relief to a specific area. It should be noted that research data demonstrated that the topical cream also provides long-term benefit to specific areas if used daily. In clinical trials using the cream twice daily for a month the patients had less discomfort at the end of the trial or in other words there was a cumulative effect of using the cream regularly.

EFAC FAQs

1. Q - What is EFAC?

A – EFAC, which is short for Esterified Fatty Acid Complex is one of the most effective natural anti-inflammatory compounds that safely promotes flexibility and healthy joint function. Clinical studies published in peer reviewed medical journals have reported significant results without any side effects.

2. Q - What is it made from?

A – EFAC is manufactured from a patented complex blend of special esterified fatty acids, derived from bovine tallow oil.

3. Q - How does EFAC work?

A – By decreasing inflammation and lubricating cell membranes throughout the body, EFAC restores fluids that cushion bones and joints to promote flexibility and mobility. Over time, because of the reduction of inflammation delivered by using EFAC, the joints and surrounding tissue have an opportunity to promote healthy function.

4. Q - How effective is it compared to other natural joint health products available today?

A - EFAC provides restoration to a wide range of joint health conditions including sports injuries to joints, muscles, tendons and deep tissue. The compound's beneficial effects have been proven far superior (hence the brand name- Superior to Glucosamine!) , and much faster acting than Glucosamine, Chondroitin, MSM, SAMe and other natural joint health products.

5. Q - Which is better, cream or capsules?

A - Both oral and topical applications were shown to be equally effective in separate studies. It was proven that EFAC could be absorbed either orally or topically into the body. Both are effective long term; however the topical cream provides relief in minutes as opposed to weeks (2 - 8) for the capsules. An advantage of the capsules is they provide for an overall systemic effect, whereas with the cream, one receives a concentrated local effect.

6. Q - Is EFAC Safe?

A - Over 1/2 billion EFAC doses have been distributed to date, with no known or reported negative reactions or side effects.

7. Q - Can EFAC work well in conjunction to taking glucosamine and/or chondroitin?

A - The cause of wear on the joint area can be attributable to inflammation as well as insufficient lubrication and cell membrane fluidity. Glucosamine may assist in the rebuilding of cartilage & the overall structure of the joint although clinical trial data has shown mixed results-sometimes helping, but usually not. EFAC provides continuous lubrication and allows the cell membrane to repel inflammatory chemicals, stopping the cascade of inflammation and the assaults on the membrane which cause it to stiffen. They can work in conjunction, however the benefit of EFAC is far more pronounced than glucosamine. As well, because EFAC is also a natural anti-inflammatory there are several potential areas of benefit besides the joints.

8. Q - Can I take EFAC with Coumadin (Warfarin)?

A – One of the most common questions received by the website is about the use of Coumadin or Warfarin and EFAC.  The Physician's Desk Reference (PDR) provides the following advice regarding herb and nutrient consumption while taking Coumadin or Warfarin. Note: EFAC is a fatty acid compound - and as per the information directly from the PDR - fatty acids are not included in the list of nutrients to be avoided. The list of those that should be avoided or not to be started once you are on anti-coagulant drugs includes bromelain, coenzyme Q10, danshen, dong quai, garlic, Ginkgo biloba, ginseng and St. John's Wort and vitamin E and vitamin K. As per the PDR none of the fatty acids (fish oil, Evening Primrose oil, Borage, Esterified or Cetylated fatty acids, olive oil) are included.

9. Q - Is EFAC like a Cox 2 inhibitor?

A – No, Cox 2 inhibitors and EFAC  work differently in the body

10. Q – Does EFAC replace fish oils?

A - Although the compound is a fatty acid it does not replace the need for Omega 3 fatty acids such as fish oils or flaxseed oil - they are complementary and can be taken together; each having their own beneficial action. Many people take Omega 3 fish oils for their anti– inflammatory action, however in broad tests EFAC has been proven to be a far more effective anti–inflammatory agent.

My Experience with EFAC

I appreciate the opportunity to share my EFAC experience with you. In 1994 I helped to introduce glucosamine to the marketplace. It was a challenge, as few had even heard of glucosamine and naturally there was a lot of initial skepticism. At the time I believed that glucosamine was a useful complementary product that could be used on its own or with the pharmaceuticals of the day to lessen the discomfort of osteoarthritis.

All indications were that it was safe and so there was little reason not to use it unless one had a shellfish allergy or was on a salt restricted diet. After more than a decade of recommending glucosamine I have a very good idea of what to expect clinically.

Then I had the opportunity to try EFAC with patients and was literally taken aback by how effective it often was. And it was fast, especially in the cream form, which literally provides pain relief in 10 to 15 minutes. Soon after, I started using both the topical cream and softgel capsules for a wide range of inflammatory conditions - unlike glucosamine or chondroitin which I was recommending specifically for osteoarthritis. With EFAC I often witnessed dramatic improvements, whereas with glucosamine or chondroitin the effects were rarely this impactful. A number of clinical trials have now been completed using EFAC and I feel is clear from this research that EFAC is far more effective and much faster acting than glucosamine or chondroitin.

As president of Nutra Naturals there is an obvious bias on my part. However I can tell you that the outstanding results that I have witnessed clinically, which are supported with outstanding science, are the foundation for my involvement. Knowing that once informed we make better choices, I am committed to increasing the awareness of EFAC through education.

Sincerely,

Dr. Kim Vanderlinden
